TheSchoolofMaterialsand Chemical Engineering is one of the important training bases and R & D bases forChina’s non-ferrous metallurgy, ferrous metallurgy, materials engineering, and applied chemistry. For several decades, it has been based inJiangxiprovince, facing the country and nourishing more than 7200 students. It has a faculty of 105, including a member ofChineseAcademyof Engineering, 18 professors, 38 associate professors and senior engineers, 1 Jinggang specially-appointed professor inJiangxiprovince, 8 academic leaders ofJiangxi’s universities and colleges, 5 backbone teachers, around 30 graduate tutors. Teachers with doctoral or master’s degree account for 80% of the total.

TheSchool now offers 9 undergraduate programs, 9 master’s degrees, and 3 programs for ME to more than 2100 undergraduate and graduate students. Among them, metallurgical engineering is recognized as the national distinctive specialty, which together with, metal materials engineering, inorganic non-metallic materials engineering is called brand specialty inJiangxiprovince; non-ferrous metallurgy and materials processing engineering are key disciplines inJiangxi’s universities. There is a national testing center, an engineering center of the Ministry of Education and 2 provincial centers, namely the National Tungsten and Rare Earth Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, Tungsten Resources Efficient Development and Applied Engineering Technology Research Center of Ministry of Education, Jiangxi Nonferrous Metals Processing Engineering Technology Research Center.NationalCopperSmeltingProcessingEngineeringTechnologyResearchCenterhas been approved to build. 100 advanced teaching and research instrument is equipped, worth 5000 million yuan. Metal Materials Engineering was allowed to be the first round of undergraduate admission in2009 inJiangxiprovince for the first time.

A long-term commitment has been given to talent training and scientific research ofChina's nonferrous metals industry. The research orientation of its own features has been formed in the areas of non-ferrous metal smelting, materials processing & preparation, chemical engineering & technology, rare-earth engineering, especially the smelting and processing of copper, tungsten, rare earth, nickel and cobalt, and preparation and formation of new materials.

In the past five years, it has undertaken 6 national key research projects, 1 national “863”Project, 9 National Natural Science Foundation projects, over 50 provincial and ministerial research projects, as well as more than 110 scientific research projects entrusted by enterprises with more than 3800 million research funding, receiving about 15 provincial and ministerial-level prizes for progress in science and technology. The research team headed by Professor Wan Linsheng completed the project “A Series of Technology and Industrialization of Cleanly and Efficiently Making Tungsten Powder of Ultra-High Performance of White (black)TungstenOre”, which won the second prize for National Science and Technology Progress. Another project named “Technology of Making Spherical, Single Crystal and Ultra-Fine Powder of APT” was the first prize for scientific and technological progress inJiangxiprovince in 2006. Lots of the research results have been promoted and applied in the production of domestic enterprises, creating economic benefits of 1.1 billion yuan for them. The school also boasts over 10 patents. There are over 700 papers published in the domestic and international academic conferences and journals, more than 140 of which can be searched by SCI, EI and ISTP, and more than 10 monographs and textbooks have been published.

1. Metal Material Engineering

Major courses: Material Thermodynamics, Materials Science, Principles of Metal Forming, Metal Heat Treatment, Materials Testing Technology, Physical and Mechanical Properties of Metals, Metal Smelting and Casting, Metal Forming Processes, Materials Processing and Forming Equipment, Computer Applications in Materials Engineering.

2. Metallurgical Engineering

Major courses: Colored (Steel) Metallurgy Principle, (Metallurgy) Physical Chemistry, Non-Ferrous metal metallurgy, steel metallurgy, metal science, metallurgical plant design basis, Theory and equipment of Chemical Engineering, Separation Science and Engineering.

3. Rare Earth Engineering

Major Courses: Metallurgy Principles, and Rare Earth Minerals Processing, Rare Earth Separation Science, Hydrometallurgy, and Rare Earth Materials Application, Rare Earth Chemistry, Melting Electrolysis, Rare Earth Materials, Powder Metallurgy, Vacuum Metallurgy, Metallurgy Equipment, Rare Earth Plant Design Basis and the Application of Computer in Rare Earth Engineering.

4. Inorganic nonmetal materials

Major Courses: Inorganic Materials Science, Physical Properties of Inorganic Materials, Inorganic Materials Technology, Materials Engineering Basis, Powder Engineering, Materials Testing Technology, Inorganic Materials Thermal Equipment, Inorganic Materials Plant Design, Special Ceramics, Process Course Design, Crystallography

5. Chemical Engineering and Technology

Major Courses: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry.

6. Biological Engineering

Major Courses: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Fermentation Engineering and Technology, Bio-separation Engineering, Enzyme Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology Technology, Food Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, Bio-engineering Equipment, Detection and Control of Biological Engineering.

7. Materials Chemistry

Major Courses: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science, Surface Chemistry, Polymer Materials, Functional Materials, New Materials Technology, Materials Characterization and Applications.

8. Materials Physics

Major Courses: Physics, Solid State Physics, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Science, Principles of Materials Heat Treatment Technology, Materials Research and Testing Methods, Materials Physics.

9. Material Forming and Control Engineering

Major Course: Mechanics, Materials Thermodynamics, Materials Science, Metal Heat Treatment, Metal Plastic Forming Principle, Rolling Theory and Technology, Profiles Rolling Process and Pass Design, Molding Process Quality Control, Mechanical Design Basis, Materials Molding Equipment and Control, Metal Pressure Processing Plant Design.
